Join us on Sunday, March 17 for a very unique demonstration. James Bond, cane rod maker (Not the super spy from the Flemming novels.) will be in the shop for an informative and entertaining cane rod making clinic. James is a life long fly fisherman and has been crafting split cane fly rods for 25 years. Specializing mainly in trout rods with an emphasis on the classic actions of Leonard and Payne, James builds beautifully crafted and functional fly rods. He is a co-founder of Canadian Cane, an Ontario based rod makers gathering, promoting cane rod building and was recently awarded the Bellinger Award for contributions to the bamboo rod making community, presented in Roscoe N.Y.
While most of us will never take up cane rod building, I’m sure that more than a few would like to see first hand the intricacies of what it takes to put one of these classic fly rods together. James will take us through the blank construction and discuss in detail, the art and science of this unique craft.
This is a complimentary event, hosted by GROF.
